From bphire at hotmail.com Wed Jan 9 13:49:27 2008 From: bphire at hotmail.com (Bonnie Hire) Date: Wed Jan 9 13:49:53 2008 Subject: [Fallbrook64] Classmates info Message-ID: Hey Warrior Friends, Happy New Year to all! FYI...Jamie Hammond produces great shows for PBS nationwide. One of her projects is a show called "Biz Kids" which begins airing here in the San Diego area on KPBS this Friday, January 11th, at 3:30 PM. I have had the privilege of working with Jamie in the last year, and meeting some of these young entrepreneurs...amazing kids! Having spent over 20 years teaching in an elementary classroom, I really appreciate the financial literacy this program promotes in a way that is very "kid friendly"...the best kind of learning experience! There is also a web site, www.BizKids.com that has great info and materials that teachers, parents, volunteers, and kids can use that relate to each episode. The "target audience" is 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, but of course adults can learn as well (that would be me!).Many of you may be familiar with the program "Bill Nye the Science Guy", another of Jamie's projects! The format of "Biz Kids" is similar in that it captures kids' attention! Jamie would not mention her nine Emmy nominations, or winning back-to-back Emmys, but I am so happy to share news of her accomplishments! I think we should share news of our friends' and classmates' accomplishments!!! So come on all you shy FUHS classmates...let's record what we've done. Afterall, it would make our teachers proud! I understand that the FUHS Class of '63 is having a reunion this summer...any thoughts about a joint venture and everyone from '64 and '63 getting together this summer? Hope the chatter starts on our web site! Polly Hunter Hire (aka Bonnie P. Hire) _________________________________________________________________ Put your friends on the big screen with Windows Vista? + Windows Live?. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/shop/specialoffers.mspx?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_CPC_MediaCtr_bigscreen_012008 From jack at classannual.com Mon Jan 14 22:18:36 2008 From: jack at classannual.com (Jack Foster Mancilla) Date: Mon Jan 14 22:18:46 2008 Subject: [Fallbrook64] Re: Update on Don's health In-Reply-To: <19093445.1200376630985.JavaMail.root@web29> References: <19093445.1200376630985.JavaMail.root@web29> Message-ID: <3DC07F91-0DDC-4230-81AA-648C984756FE@classannual.com> Peggy, I forwarded this to the email list because some people may not be able to read the attachment. > Don & Peggy Durling > 23 Rollingwood Lane > Fallbrook, CA 92028 > > Happy new year dear ones, > > We wish to update you on Don?s health. My goodness it is cold here these last couple of weeks and I have having to spend the nights in the barn with my sheep on diligent observance because my horny bucks got in with the ewes a month and a half befor the schedualed affair. Thank goodness I noticed it right away but who knows how many they got before I got them out!! I had a set of twins born last night....they would have not lived it was so very cold and they were already chiling down. So I scooped them up and backed myself towards the 'jug' barn...that is a smaller enlousure holding many 4x4 pens where I put the mom and the lambs to 'mother up' make sure they get dry and warm and get to the udder and check the udder for milk. Because these ewes are not sheared, the lamb has a harder time finding the milk and not suck on wool instead. Because they were cold I gave both of them a boost of warm milk with colostrum and outfitted them in jackets. They are doing just fine today and mom is a excelent mother. The flock will be sheared Feb.4th in preperation for the 'real' lambing schedual. About 150 or so, depending on how many lamb out this week?? There is a open invitation for anyone who wants to visit....lots of land to roam, and/or work to do. My ranch is on the Powder River, 18 miles outside of Broadus MT so that means you can wade in the river or fish for catfish. My georgeous Great Pryeneeze guard dog is sleeping on the sofa right now...she is old and in the process of retiring....but she works all night protecting the flock even if I have them in the barn and barn yard this week, instead of the pasture.. Coyotes are real bad and they are hungry because it is so cold and there is much snow on the ground. When she comes in in the morning she has icecicles on her eyebrows and ice cubes between her toes. She will go back out to the flock about 3:30 or so... Oh she is getting up now.... In addition, the poll said to pick only 2 and I wanted to choose several. I agree with Jack that we should plan at least one event every year, possibly to coincide with the Oldtimers' Picnic or the Alumni Picnic, with a separate dinner or barbecue the night before. I also think that should not prevent us from scheduling other get-togethers like at Kermit's, Don and Peggy's, or anywhere else we can, if possible. We will never select a date that is available for everyone, so if there are 2 or 3 gatherings a year, we might get a better turnout over all. Basically, it is my feeling that we renewed a lot of old connections 3 1/2 years ago, and if we don't keep them going, we may lose them. I would hate to see that happen. Our reunion meant a lot to me, and I would like to keep those friendships active and thriving. I, for one, will try to make any of the events that are planned, to the best of my ability. I miss you all. Of course, I get a little analytical in interpreting questions. As an out-of-towner who would love to make all gatherings, but obviously cannot, I hope that the "Wait until our 45th reunion" choice means that there WILL be a 45th reunion gathering. I voted for that thinking it meant "Let's have one". I also think it's a great idea to have annual gatherings at the Old Timer's Picnic, but voting for that cancelled my original vote. You can't wait for one and have another in between.(See what I mean about overthinking things?) It's always a possibility that some of us can/will come. I can't think of anything better than staying in touch with my friends from so long ago. So, to help clarify things for a hyper-analytical clasmate....Is there a 45th reunion being planned? Poor Kermit. It looks like you're winning. I must admit that the barbecue was a highlight of our 40th. My brain is tired now, Kathy (Cummings) If your dog is fat, you aren't getting enough exercise.
