It sounds like you have family near too. Would love to hear more at any time and anyone else out there that wants to share. For sale sign is up but winter is on it's way. Love Jeannie Wildflower wrote: Thanks Jean....I did go on the site of the Village News and found the information I wanted. The home I was most interested in is still standing but I am sure all around is disaster, because the house next door is burnt to the ground. Oh I hurt for the pain so many are having to deal with right now. I am so longing to be in CA for awhile, yet dreading the site of the terraine (I sure wish my spell check worked because I am the worst of spellers and it comes up OK but I know better) Anyway, One of my CA| cats is clawing at my shoulder - such a pest - but I do want to write about my day....but is it OK to write about ME when so many are suffering.? Her goes anyway.. When the time changes next week, I will not feel so guilty getting up at 7:30 because it is still pretty dark here. Today I helped my sister Becky and her husband Dennis McEuen (old Fallbrook - house spared on Los Alisos) worked sheep - meaning up the chute to seperate the ewes to go with which Rams....They have a regersterd flock so that is necessary....I did not go to that rassel.....then off I went to bring my cow/calfs home...seperated the calfs and off they went to the auction yard ( they look good) grass was great and strong mothers too. I have the cows in the small area around my house for a few days so that they will not break a fence and go try and find the calfs.( A sad time for me too) This morning one of my the pastures was full of wild turkeys - wow the first I have seen this year in my barnyard so I put out some whole corn to hopefully bring them in again. Yeah! No hunting here for birds on my place. Just the over abundance of dear and antelope - but that is hard too. My guard dog Rosie, gets so afraid..... My life is full - so very different - so alone and challenging because I am now planning lambing and what I will need and that is not until March. I do not look forward to the cold and feeding the livestock every day, loading the truck and taking it out to them,,, but the spring was great and I do not think I will have to start until January unless there is a big snow fall.....OH I could go on and on but at this point it must be getting teadious to read.....YET the OPEN invitation to visit is there!! I've included the link to her site for all who may want to go there and donate. You may also contact me directly and I will be happy to coordinate with her if it is easier for any of you. http://www.gaminiratnavira.com/fires.html In addition, I just found out that Bill Ahrend and his daughter also lost their homes in the fires. We all know Bill from his years of tireless involvement and support of our community - I'm sure all of us (or our families) have been photographed by him at one or more points in our lives. Below is the email that Shelby sent to me. You may wish to get in touch with her directly - or again, feel free to contact me as well. Hello, My name is Shelby Houskeeper, I am Bill Ahrend's daughter. Lisa Ratnivira emailed me that you may have (or know of) a couch and love seat that is available for donation to fire victims. Both Dad and I lost our homes and are interested in furniture. We are considering getting a storage unit if needed. You may contact me by email or call our studio (contact info below). We also have several friends who lost their homes and we could definitely find a home for any furniture items. If it is possible to get a picture or description of the items, we can find them the best match. It has turned cold here....cold enough during the day not to melt the snow we had two nights ago. What a surprise to let my working dog McDuff out at 5:15 for his early morning strole to find a white covering to all the earth around me. He did not dodle either. I had to place 9 ewes in the barn and locked in with them my gruad dog Rosie. She had ran to the next ranch when hunting season started (she is gun shy big time) my heart goes out to her. So now I am rebinding her to her own flock. I will take her to the vet this morning, and bring her health back up to power - she has gotten too thin for a winter coming on. We will be having Thanksgiving this Sunday because my sister Eve from Cavereek AZ is coming, She will then take mom back with her so recoop from her knee replacement operation. There is so much to be thankful for - freedom, space, arteisan well, a river and food in the field. The beauty, with the challenge is still better than that which I miss in Fallbrook. Love to all, I must find my camera a take a few pictures! Then if that were not enough, when I worked my sheep Saturday, to pull out the rams from the ewes one of my rams was missing. Oh and my most favorite!....When we were done and my help left, I got on the 4-wheeler and went on a search, to find him dead. I have always gotten extremely close to my animals, and it sounds like Rosie was much more than a pet to you. I have lost many pets in my life, and have had to have three put down, after many years (in one case 18) of companionship. I am now caring for my 14 year old cat, with an advanced cardiac condition. It could end at any time. Indeed, as is clear from your two animals, age or pre-existing illness may have nothing to do with it. Maybe we have to go through these traumatic times to prepare us for other challenges. Or maybe they help us appreciate those wonderful times that we also have, with our family and friends as well as our animals. Whatever the purpose of those dark times, they are a part of our life, and hard to go through. My heart aches for you, because I understand how it feels. In fact, I am right now in tears for you, knowing the pain you are in. (I always did cry easily. Too emotional.) You are in my thoughts and my prayers.
